DiabeatIt

Our Mission

DiaBeatIt is dedicated to combating the silent epidemic of diabetes and its serious complication, diabetic retinopathy (DR), in India. Our primary goal is to identify undiagnosed diabetes early to prevent future complications, with a special focus on diabetic retinopathy, and to ensure timely intervention to protect vision. We aim to save lives and prevent avoidable blindness through early detection, awareness, and community action.

Why It Matters

  • India is home to over 100 million diabetics today, projected to reach 134 million by 2045.

  • Alarmingly, 70% of diabetics in India are unaware of their condition, risking severe health complications.

  • DR affects 15–25% of diabetics and is a leading cause of preventable blindness; over 75% of long-term diabetics develop DR if untreated.

Our Mission

  • Provide Early Screening: Identifying undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes through community screenings and risk assessments to prevent future complications

  • Focused Awareness: Engaged with elderly residents at old age homes, raising awareness about the silent progression of DR, providing guidance on diabetes-friendly lifestyle changes, importance of monitoring blood sugar levels regularly and encouraging routine eye screenings.

  • Lifestyle and Management Support: Encouraging healthier habits, reducing obesity, and combatting risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol use.Promote healthy lifestyles including exercise, nutritious diets, and reduced junk food consumption

  • Encourage Regular Follow-Up: Raising awareness about the silent progression of DR, promoting timely eye screening, and ensuring access to treatment to save vision.Motivate people with diabetes to attend routine eye checkups to prevent progression of DR.

Nritya Mangalam

  • Conducted workshops  with Kshamata, an organization which aims to empower women and adolescent girls faced with vulnerable and exploitative situations. The activities were designed to encourage mindfulness and emotional connection through Bharatanatyam. We focused on identifying facial expressions (abhinaya) to convey various emotions.

  • Participants explored how different emotions, such as joy, sadness, or anger, could be represented through subtle changes in their facial features.

  • This practice allowed them to become more aware of their emotional states and express themselves more consciously. Additionally, they learnt basic hand gestures, known as mudras, which are integral to conveying emotions and storytelling in dance. Each gesture was carefully practiced to help individuals focus on their movements and the emotions they wanted to express

  • Designed and led 15+ experiential workshops for over 1000 students using classical movement, mudras (hand gestures), and rhythmic patterns to promote inner harmony and confidence.
